Janashree Bima Yojna

This scheme is particularly formed to provide the benefits for the children, and is usually identified as scholarship schemes. This scheme is marked at the urban and rural poor that lives below or marginally above the poverty line. Students who are studying in classes 9th to 12th and those whose parents are already using LIC janashree bima yojana are only eligible for the scholarship.

The scheme would be operated through LIC and additional occupational groups would be identified and notified by LIC in consultation with the State Governments / nodal agencies. The groups should have a minimum of 25 beneficiaries, whether found under aegis of Panchayats, NGOs, Self-help groups, nodal agencies or any other institutionalized arrangements.


 

Features of Janashree Bima Yojna:


1. It provide life insurance protection to the rural and urban poor persons.

2. In addition, a scholarship of Rs.300/- per quarter per child for the education of two children from 9th to 12th Standard is also provided under the Shiksha sahyog yojana.

3. The scheme covers artisans irrespective of gender, between the age group of 18-60 years.

It is a group insurance scheme, in which no premium is charged either to the parent of the scholarship holder. Shiskha sahayog yojana is an add-on coverage under Janashree bima yojana, without any additional premiums. Under this scheme, some groups are declared that can be covered are like workers in textile, food stuff, printing products, chemical products, mineral products. On the other hand, some of the occupational workers under this scheme are: fisherman, cobblers, hand-loom, etc.

 

 

Benefits of Janashree Bima Yojna:

Death benefit: in the event of death other than accident, an amount of Rs. 30,000/ - is payable. If death occurs due to an accident, an amount of Rs.75,000/- is payable. Permanent partial disability, due to an accident, an amount of Rs. 37,500/ - is payable.

Premium: the premium under the scheme is Rs. 200/- per annum per member. Rs. 100/- will be contributed by the member and state government. Balance 50% will be borne by the social security fund.

In order to claim the scholarship, the member of the Janashree bima yojana with the child desirable for the scholarship need to fill in the application form and submit the same to the Nodal agency that will work on to identify the suitable students. This scheme will be administered by the pension and group schemes department of LIC.

 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Valid for the people who are between 18 to 59 years of age

2. Living below or marginally above the poverty line.

3. Age proof shall be furnished by every one at the time of joining a scheme. This shall be ratio card, birth certificate, school leaving certificate, voter ID card.

4. No insured member shall withdraw from the scheme while she or he is still on eligible member satisfying the conditions under this scheme.

Only a limited number of students will be provided with this scholarship, and hence the eligibility is mainly made under the basis of poorest of the poor. The scheme provides to only risk cover for death/disability, and the worker is not entitled to get any returns on the premium paid by him or paid on his behalf by institutions, if he or she survives the entire period of insurance.
